Game Mode (Diablo 3)
On PC you can see your region (Europe, The Americas, Asia) under 'login' button after you open Diablo 3 or after you login, by clicking 'switch hero' - under 'select hero' button. To change it, log out and go options > account > server region selection.
Please compare your login screen to the image, your character will be one of the four possible choices.
There are 12 possible PC modes and 12 console modes so there are 24 possible game modes in Diablo 3 and we support them all!
SC = Softcore/Normal (default mode)
HC = Hardcore (you have to select checkbox whilst creating a character, you can see a red banner on login screen and special 'hooded skull' icon)
Additionally you can select between regular (Non-Season) or Seasonal (you have to select checkbox whilst creating a character) which will give a gold banner on login screen and special in-game 'green leaf' icon in top-right corner (next to difficulty level), which is also displayed to your friends in friends panel and in other places. The only content difference between NS and Seasonal is Season Journey, it offers a set of objectives, which upon completion rewards you with one extra stash tab (per season) and various cosmetic rewards (transmogs, pet/pennant/wings, portraits).
Seasonal characters automatically convert to Non-Season every 2-4 months (in server dropdown, NS is simply named by a realm: Europe / The Americas / Asia).
You can estimate game mode's popularity by opening leaderboard and scrolling down to the bottom ranks. Lower average level likely means that it is less competitive and thus less players play there.
We recommend playing NS if you care about high Paragon and obtaining perfect items, if you don't then Season is a better and more popular choice. You can compete on leaderboards on both modes but gear/paragon progression of your competitors will be much more advanced on NS. Season gives you a brand new beginning and ability to compete against skill/luck, rather than thousands of hours of grind. If you need extra challenge, try Hardcore!
You may also play on Classic - without Reaper of Souls (ROS) expansion, there is no Adventure Mode so only old school Campaign farming is possible. You can purchase tradable level 60 products or use level 70 items with 'reduced level required' property.
