Maelstrom is a very useful early wand for every caster, not just Necro that specializes in Curses. It's great because of 30% FCR and 13 mana bonus.
Yew Wand is a normal unique so it can be upgraded to Petrified Wand (exceptional) and then to Ghost Wand (elite), which will have higher damage but also higher requirements.
