This variation allows you to Teleport faster and has longer reach (attack range), which makes catching casters easier.
Berserker Axe (BA) has higher attack range than Phase Blade (PB), that's why it's used for PvP. Smiter attacks with his shield but range depends on a weapon, which will also lose durability when Smiting. One of the reasons PB is used for PvM is because it doesn't cost gold to repair, which isn't a big concern in PvP scenario, where you want to use the best possible items.
Smiter needs to use elite Paladin shield to deal maximum Smite damage. All of them deal 46-46.5 average damage whilst exceptional shields only half of that.
Eth-bugged Exile has 50% more defense than regular ethereal and twice as much as non-eth. Defense is very important because it gets multiplied by Defiance aura and Holy Shield so every little bit counts.

	Enigma grants +1 to Teleport (Sorc skill usable by any class). You can teleport anywhere on the screen, even through the walls and your minions like merc will tele with you. At level 5-15 it costs 20-10 mana.
	Grief grants 35% chance to cast level 15 Venom on striking (Assassin buff usable by any class). It lasts for 3 minutes and adds 305-325 poison damage over 0.4 seconds to your physical attacks. It will have 100% uptime.
	Exile grants Level 13-16 Defiance when equipped (Paladin aura usable by any class). It gives 190-220% defense (+10% per level).
	Exile grants 15% chance to cast level 5 Life Tap on striking (Necromancer curse usable by any class). It lasts for 25 seconds and heals you for 50% of physical damage done, which makes you invincible vs bosses as long as you keep attacking a cursed target.
	Call to Arms (CTA) grants +1-6 to Battle Orders (BO) (Barb shout usable by any class). At level 1-20 it gives +35-92% to life/mana (+3% per level) and lasts for 35-225 seconds (+10 per level). This is one of the most powerful items in Diablo 2 and almost every build should use it.
	Call to Arms (CTA) grants +2-6 to Battle Command (BC) (Barb shout usable by any class). It gives '+1 To All Skills' and lasts for 25-205 seconds (+10 per level). This shout will increase Battle Orders (BO) level so cast BC first.
